CFD modelling and simulation of drill cuttings transport efficiency in annular bends: Effect of particle size polydispersity

This study analyses the impact of particle polydispersity using Eulerian-Eulerian (EE) and Lagrangian-Eulerian (LE) modelling approaches in context wellbore cleaning operations drilling industry. Spherical particles sizes 0.5 mm, 0.75 mm 1 are considered, whereas a Power Law rheological model is used for fluid phase description. The EE approach implemented herein applies Kinetic Theory Granular Flow (KTGF) ANSYS Fluent® accounts size differences by representing them as different phases within computational domain. With LE approach, we employ Dense Discrete Phase Model (DDPM) capture this difference with aid distribution (the Rosin-Rammler model). findings our experiments show considerable key variables pressure drop, deposition tendencies) between monodispersed polydispersed transport scenarios.
